Bill Becker, a stalwart on the MSGAO meet and greet circuit, won the grand prize being offered by Tractor Supply Co. at its Paws Event Sept. 20 in West Memphis, Arkansas. MSGAO was meeting and greeting at the store. Bill generously donated the $200 Tractor Supply gift card to MSGAO. Thank you Tractor Supply and THANK YOU Bill!

Back Road to Kennel Is Open, and It Is Nice!

Hallelujah!  The back road to the MSGAO Kennel, accessed from the Southland Drive exit off Interstate 40 heading west from Memphis, is now open. Formerly known as the best friend of the wheel-alignment industry, the road is now smooth as glass.  Longtime adopters will recall slaloming to avoid all the potholes and sinkholes that plagued the road and jostled our greyhounds.

This road is the ramp before Ingram Boulevard from the Memphis direction.  It is one ramp after that if you are coming from Little Rock.

To access this road from Memphis, you take a right off the exit ramp and then make a left at the gas station on the left.  You then go right into the driveway that leads to the kennel.  Those of you coming east from Little Rock will be able to figure it out, we hope!

Introducing…Harry Houndini!

Come visit the award-winning Harry Houndini and cast your vote for him as the most popular scarecrow on display at the Festival of Scarecrows at Lichterman Nature Center in Memphis! Harry was selected by the judges as the top “critter” scarecrow in the competition, winning a $100 cash prize. Voting in the popularity contest continues through the end of September.

The League of Extraordinary Greyhounds

Consider yourself a member of an exclusive group: The League of Extraordinary Greyhounds! Mid-South Greyhound Adoption Option will be celebrating its extraordinary greyhounds and their adopters at the 2014 annual reunion at Southland Park Gaming and Racing.

The theme evokes a Steampunk vibe, and attendees are encouraged to dress themselves and their dogs in keeping with this fun concept. We can’t wait to see what people will come up with!

For those unfamiliar with the term, Steampunk is a science-fiction niche that centers on steam-powered machinery, generally with a Victorian or post-apocalyptic twist. If you’ve seen “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen” or the “Wild Wild West” flick from a few years back, you’ll get the idea.

The celebration is set for Oct. 11, 2014, at Southland Park Gaming and Racing in West Memphis, Arkansas. Here are the things you need to know:
Time: 5:30 p.m. (Dinner served at 7:30 p.m.)
Dress: Business casual (or theme-related costume).
Tickets: $25 per adult in advance ($30 at the door), $10 for children
RSVP: By using the form below or calling (870) 735-7317
Activities: Cocktail hour, parade of adopted dogs on the race track, contests and shopping galore with auctions and vendors!
Entry/Parking: Due to ongoing construction, parking will be different than in previous years. Maps will be posted when they become available.
Registration: A form is provided in an announcement below. If you are on the MSGAO mailing list, you’ll get a form in the mail.

Anyone who has attended a previous reunion will tell you how much fun the Live and Silent Auctions are. The auctions are two of MSGAO’s biggest fund raisers for the year. Donations of auction items, greyhound-related and otherwise, are now being accepted. If you have something to donate, or if you know of a business that would be willing to donate a product or service, please let Director Vicki Cohen know as soon as possible. Auction donations should be received by Oct. 1. Cash donations to help with Reunion expenses are always appreciated!
