MSGAO Receives Donation

MSGAO receives support from Southland Gaming and Racing

Update your dog!

Showcase your dog in his or her new surroundings by uploading post-adoption pictures on the Greyhound Data website. Find it at http://www.greyhound-data.com/adoption.htm?id=351&filter_sex=&x=&z=7Qe2WH&list=r. It requires you to register, but there is no cost. The uploads are easy. The site asks that you only upload pictures of the subject dog, so please don’t post photos with multiple dogs. You may want to download the current photos first so you have them for you pup’s personal archive.

So you can teach an old blog new tricks

No, your eyes are not deceiving you. The Mid-South Greyhound Adoption Option website you know and love has a new look! The same handy tools and links still are here to serve all your greyhound needs; in fact, we hope we’ve met our goal of making them easier to find and access.

Curious about who is available for adoption? Then click on that handsome face in the upper left-hand corner. That’ll take you straight to “greyhound-data.com” and the dogs patiently awaiting their forever homes. If you’ve decided it’s time to enrich your life with a needlenose companion, then the adoption application also is a click away. Wondering what’s up on the MSGAO Facebook page? Just scroll down a bit to find the Facebook link. We encourage all adopters to join us there to share photos and news about the retired racers who have gone on to new lives of leisure.

Our goal is to keep the content as fresh as our updated look. If you have news you wish to share with the MSGAO community, email it to [email protected] and we’ll try to get it posted as soon as possible.

In the meantime, please browse the new site. We welcome ideas on features or tools that would make it — and your life as a greyound adopter — even better.

And you can thank Rachel Hogue for taking the lead on revamping and freshening the site!

Tribute to Kathleen Gilley

The greyhound world is mourning the loss of an ambassador who spread the word about the joys of the breed through her performing greys.

Kathleen Gilley, 62, died Feb. 8, 2011, in Williston, Florida. Kathleen and her husband Gil toured extensively with the Dancing Gilley Greyounds. They performed locally at the St. Jude Showcase of Dogs as well as at MSGAO reunions at Southland. Katheen also published extensively on greyhounds, both online and in print.

A memory page has been established on the Gilley’s website: http://dancinggreyhound.com/news.

Mid-South Greyhound Adoption Option is located on the grounds of Southland Park in West Memphis, Arkansas. It began in 1991 with the mission of finding homes for retired racing greyhounds. The program has grown to the point that it adopts out on average 130 greyhounds per year, with space for more than 30 dogs awaiting adoption. MSGAO has a director, kennel staff of 3, board of directors of 6, and a valuable volunteer base in the surrounding communities.

MSGAO is a non-profit organization that is partially funded and supported by Southland Park, local racing kennel operators, boarding fees, gift shop sales, area fundraisers and by charitable contributions from both corporate and private donors. If you are interested in making a donation, please visit our donation page.

Our goal is to increase public awareness of the pet-ability of retired racing greyhounds. Our focus is always on the dogs!

Visit our contact page for our address and detailed directions to the kennel.
