A Generous Gift from the Late Jan Wylie

MSGAO dogs will be traveling in style and comfort through a generous bequest from the estate of Jan Wylie, who not only adopted dogs through the program but also supported us in many other ways.

This 2015 Ford Transit XLT replaces a kennel truck that had become unsafe. A primary use will be transporting dogs to and from vets’ offices. It also will be used for supply runs as well as transporting setups and equipment for events. A Rhino liner in the cargo area is a special feature of the new vehicle.

The vehicle soon will be sporting a decal that recognizes Jan’s generosity and love for the hounds of MSGAO. On behalf of the hounds, we extend our sincerest thanks to Jan.

Greyhounds Wow Kids at Career Day

Career Day at Wells Station Elementary School in Memphis, where adopter Martha Bowman teaches, featured greyhounds. Monster, the handsome ebony boy of adopter Sue Arlotta, and Dyson, an available greyhound, wowed the kids. McGruff the Crime Dog also appeared at the event. Vicki Cohen, MSGAO executive director, reports Dyson was amazing on his first outing ever! Click on the image for a larger view.

Artistic Fund-Raiser Set

Adopters know their greyhounds are works of art with their sleek lines and elegant faces. Now you can capture your grey on canvas during an artsy fund-raising event for MSGAO! Like last year, painters will gather at Pinot’s Palette on Sunday, June 14 at 2 p.m. We will be painting a “pop art” greyhound. Food will be served and you can bring your own wine!

Pinot’s Palette is at 5040 Sanderlin Ave., Suite 111, Memphis, TN 38117. Cost is $45 per painter.

This event is for beginners, experienced painters and anyone in-between. You will begin with a canvas prepared with a greyhound drawing, and end with a painting to take home for your wall. Staff will be on hand to help anyone who needs assistance or instruction.

Bring a photo of your greyhound if you want to use paint colors of your own hound, or do something entirely different! Be “artsy,” and use bright, surrealistic colors! (Think Picasso or Andy Warhohl.) Or be creative, and make your painting more like a comic greyhound portrait. It’s YOUR painting! It will be unique to your imagination and style!

This is a fun — and different — fund-raiser for anyone who loves greyhounds! Bring your own potable beverages (or not). Glasses, cork screws, bottle openers and wine buckets will be supplied.

Space is limited; preregistration and prepayment are required. To sign up,  call (901) 761-0012. You can prepay at this link: MSGAO at Pinot

Dog-A-Roo Appearance Canceled

Inclement weather is forcing MSGAO to withdraw from the Dog-A-Roo Festival scheduled today at Shelby Farms Park in Memphis.

We’ll Meet and Greet in Little Rock!

If you’ve seen one of MSGAO’s greyhounds in the Little Rock area and have been curious about adopting one, this weekend you’ll have an opportunity to spend some quality time with some of our retired athletes. Greyhound adopters from the greater Little Rock area will be meeting and greeting — in other words, showing off their special pets — from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Farmer’s Market downtown on Saturday, May 9.

Not only can you learn all about greyhounds from people who have lived with one or more of them, but also you can love on these wonderful dogs. Come prepared to do lots of petting, because the greys at the meet and greet won’t let you get away without doing that!
